Community Heroes

Lancaster County offers many resources for people in need—but sometimes it’s hard to know who to call. We established this page as a way to put information at your fingertips so you or someone you know can find the help they need. From medical care to food and electricity, from elderly care to scholarships for education, our desire is to see this list grow and we try to bridge the gap between those who are needy—and those who can help.

Are you an organizational administrator and don’t see your group listed? Please call our office or email us to provide us with information to post about your services.

Matt Blackwell Foundation

The Matt Blackwell Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich the lives of Lancaster County’s youth by supporting and establishing programs and projects that will promote their physical and mental well-being. The Matt Blackwell Foundation’s responsive grant program is a way of reaching out to the youth in the community by funding certain projects and programs that meet the criteria and support the mission of The Matt Blackwell Foundation.

Once an individual or organization completes a Grant Request Application, the application is reviewed by the foundation’s board of directors. Once the board determines the request to be a project which supports its mission, and determines the monies are available, the application is approved and the project is funded, either partially or fully.

To date, The Matt Blackwell Foundation’s Responsive Grant Program has provided support for several school and church related programs, as well as many other youth projects and missions. The Matt Blackwell Foundation also offers a scholarship to four high school seniors annually. Visit their website to download scholarship criteria and an application form.
