People Matter: Nursing Our Community
Leslie has been a nurse for over 20 years. She attended the University of South Carolina where she got her BSN, RN degree. Since then Leslie has gone on to work in many different facilities as a nurse. She is currently the Nurse Manager at Carolina Medical Consultants in Rock Hill.
During Covid-19 Leslie says they have changed many things at CMC to ensure the safety of their patients. They constantly sanitize and disinfect the facility, have gloves, mask, and shields for testing and are also working closely with EMS when they have patients that are positive for COVID-19. She says it has been very stressful for herself, her family, and fellow co-workers knowing they can come in contact with the virus at any time.
The difference in her clinic and the emergency room is that the hospitals are more equipped than they are, even though they test there, she says normal procedure is mask and gloves, vs. the full protection for hospital staff. The biggest change for her is that her regular patients, especially the elder, have been afraid to come in for regular protocol care. This can lead to serious medical risk for some patients because of their fear of getting the virus, so they have seen a downfall in revenue.
